You Matter

This card was created using the Botanical 3-D Texture Fades Embossing Folder, Tim Holtz Alpha Tiles, and the ‘You’ Simon Says Stamp die.

In case no one has told you today, YOU matter. You are important!!! Just as fingerprints are all unique, there is no one else like you…your heart, your soul, the sum of your experiences. You are valuable and amazing!

I think this was my first effort when I used a 3-D Textures Fades embossing folder. This folder is thicker than normal, so I misted the cardstock to weaken the fibers before I ran it through my Big Shot.* The paper was just too thin. I tried adding Metallic Lustre and Wink of Stella to it but thought it was a lost cause. So, I put it in my “What was I thinking, but maybe I can use a piece of it for future projects” container.

I’ve learned to keep things that I consider to be hopeless because sometimes I can use it once I’ve looked at it with fresh eyes. Today, when I was looking through the “What was I Thinking” container, the Texture Fades embossed cardstock caught my eye. It reminded me of a card I had seen where the artist used a sanding block to get the same effect. I decided it made the perfect background for this card.

(*Because of the thickness of 3-D Texture Fades, the embossing folder acts as one of the cutting pads. I’ve found that misting the cardstock, before running it through the Big Shot, helps-but have learned that not all cardstocks withstand misting. Sending Golden Sunset Sparkles

I created this card using Lavinia Stamps, distress inks, and VersaFine Clair inks.

I began by sponging Fired Brick distress ink onto the cardstock with the blending tool, followed by Mustard Seed, Squeezed Lemonade, and Mowed Lawn. Next, I stamped the Lavinia Stamps images using VersaFine Clair inks. I used an acetate circle as a mask and sponged Summertime VersaFine Clair ink around the circle on the Mustard Seed distressed ink and Tulip Red VersaFine on the Fired Brick distressed ink to create the outline of the sun. A Gelly Roll pen added sparkle to the fairy wings and around the sun. Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist added shimmer to the Fired Brick distress ink at the top of the card.

To finish the card, I used Scor-Tape to anchor the cardstock onto the black border, then to the white cardstock base.

  • Strathmore Watercolor Paper, Cold Press, 140 lb.

Brusho-Flowers

I created this card using Brushos and  Sizzix Cutout Blossoms dies.

Warmth and sunshine have finally come to Minnesota! (I can open the windows now, and work with alcohol inks again. I tried the Pearls today, for the first time, and I know I’m going to like using these alcohol inks.)

I was looking through the new craft supplies in Hobby Lobby last night and spied the Cutout Blossoms dies package. I started thinking of the possibilities, plus it was on sale. How could I put it back on the shelf! I was a little concerned about all the small pieces in the dies as I was using 140 lb. paper. But I ran it through my Big Shot a few times, and they came out easily with the Cricut Weeder Tool.

I was watching videos and came upon a tip that I want to pass along to you-using a sewing gauge. I found mine at Wal-Mart for $1.50. I used it to measure the space on the top and bottom of this card to space it evenly. It was so quick and easy. The plastic piece can be moved to the measure you need, and it stayed in place when I adjusted the second space.
