Happy Halloween

I created this card using the Haunted Sizzix die set, Lavinia Stamps, Brusho Crystal colors, a gel plate, ColorBox Dye Ink, VersaFine Clair Inks, and a scrap alcohol ink piece.

Happy Halloween to you and yours!!!

The Haunted die set consists of three dies: the house structure base (I chose black for this); all the accessory pieces on the house, like roof shingles and house shutters (brown); and the four steps of the sidewalk path. What I didn’t realize was the accessory pieces’ die would cut out each piece individually so each piece would need to be glued to the house base (although the house shingles did come in four different sections).

When you die cut the cardstock with the house base die, it does help that there are imprints showing where the accessory pieces should go, if you wanted to follow the package image for this design. But, the pieces are very tiny so it did take a lot of patience to position and to glue them. I stood by a sunny window, so I’d have enough light to clearly see the imprints.

Would I buy this die set all over again? I would. I liked how the Halloween house looked against the orange sky background.

To begin the card, I used a brayer to apply Tangerine ColorBox Dye ink over the entire surface of a 6” gel plate. (I had previously filled four art palette containers 3/4 full with distilled water and sprinkled Vermillion, Crimson, Turquoise, and Gamboge brushos separately into the containers.) I dipped a fan paintbrush into the Gamboge container; tapped the paintbrush once over a piece of copy paper; then tapped it over the gel plate a few times to distribute drops of the brusho water; followed by the other three brusho colors. I placed a sheet of Multifarious Card on the gel plate, smoothed it with my fingers, and pulled off a print.

I sized the cardstock to make the area around the orange circle equal. I die cut the pieces of the haunted house and glued the accessory pieces to the house, using Ranger Multi Medium Matte as the adhesive; then blotted the excess with a paper towel. I adhered the haunted house to the Multifarious cardstock with Scor-Tape.

To create the moon, I positioned an acetate circle and sponged Tangerine ColorBox ink around it with a Picket Fence blender brush. A Clear Gelly Roll pen added sparkle around the edge of the moon to highlight it. I had a piece of alcohol ink yupo paper left over from another project, so I cut that to fit the bottom of the circle, and glued the pathway to it (with Multi Medium Matte).

The Lavinia Stamps were stamped with Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink. I used a Ranger Blending Tool to sponge Twilight VersaFine Clair ink around the outer area of the orange circle. (I’ve found the best way to do this is by starting the Blending Tool off the cardstock first. I don’t get as many swirl marks that way.)

To finish the card, I attached the cardstock to an orange cardstock base; added sparkle with a Clear Gelly Roll pen; and sparkle to the bats with a Quickie Glue Pen and Black Sparkle Embossing Powder.

Bridgette’s 3D Halloween Card

I created this card display using a 3D design from the Silhouette Design Store.

The bewitching hour is almost here! Halloween…it’s going to be a full, blue moon. In my part of the country, Daylight Savings Time ends on that night, so we turn our clocks back one hour. Halloween also falls on Saturday this year. I’m hoping these combined phenomena will reboot 2020, and we fast forward to spring 2021.

After cutting out the pieces of the design with my Cameo 4, I assembled the card. The witch’s hat consists of a flat circle base, with the hat top piece resting loosely on this card base. (I’ve already given away this card, but I believe I made the hat 5-6” tall.) I positioned some tulle at the very top of the hat; then pulled the two sides of the hat top together and adhered it with Scor-Tape. To give it a little more adhesive strength, I put a couple staples from the Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher Stapler. I added some tulle around the base, as well as a bow; adhered the pieces on the socks and the buckles on the shoes; then added a little glitter.

My amazing daughter-in-law, Bridgette, liked her birthday card!

  • Darice Cardstock, Jet Black, 12” x 12”
  • Cardstock, Green Apple

Halloween Magic

I created this card using Lavinia stamps, Brusho Crystal Colours, a gel plate, ColorBox Dye Ink, and VersaFine Clair Ink.

To begin the card, I filled four art palette containers 3/4 full with distilled water and sprinkled Vermillion, Crimson, Turquoise, and Gamboge brushos separately into the containers. (When I first received my brushos, I didn’t take the lids off. Instead, I punched a hole in the top of them with a push pin, and then kept a push pin in each container as a seal. That way, there was less chance of brusho powder getting everywhere.)

Next, I used a brayer to apply Tangerine ColorBox Dye ink over the entire surface of a 6” round gel plate. I dipped a fan paintbrush into the Gamboge container; tapped the paintbrush once over a piece of copy paper; then tapped it over the gel plate a few times to distribute drops of the brusho water; followed by the other three brusho colors. I placed a piece of Multifarious Card on the gel plate, smoothed it with my fingers, and pulled off a print.

I sized the cardstock to make the area around the orange circle equal. In retrospect, it would have been better to cut the cardstock after I had decided which stamps I was going to use, but it worked out.

I stamped the Lavinia stamps using Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink. There were a few spots on the crow that weren’t inked completely, so I dabbed a small paintbrush onto the Nocturne ink pad and used the paintbrush to make the spots solid black.

The sun was created by using a Pickett Fence blender brush to sponge Tangerine ColorBox dye ink around an acetate circle. (I’ve die cut a few sizes of circles from a sheet of acetate using Spellbinders circle dies. What’s nice about acetate is that it makes it easy to determine where to place the sun…or moon, as it’s clear.) A Clear Gelly Roll pen added sparkle around the edge of the sun.

To finish the card, I adhered the Multifarious Card to a black cardstock base.

(I’m so excited! The mailman just delivered the Elements Dye Ink Pads I ordered from Lavinia Stamps. Since Lavinia Stamps is based in England, it always amazes me that the package crosses an ocean yet still arrives in good time. It’s been to more places and seen more adventure than me this year. I ordered the full set because it doesn’t make sense to order a few at a time because the international shipping charge is higher. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. The ink colors are beautiful!)

Materials Used:

  • Multifarious Card A4 (Lavinia Stamps)
  • Black Cardstock Base
  • Lavinia Stamps: Drake, Bats, Fairy Web, Tree Branch, Inspire Me, Mini Crown (Tracey Lavinia Dutton is the artist of the Lavinia stamps.)

  • Gel Press Gel Printing Plate, 6” Round
  • Speedball Pop-in Soft Rubber Brayer, 4”
  • Art Palette with 12 containers with lids

  • Tim Holtz Stamp Platform
  • Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat
  • Fiskars Procision Rotary Bypass Trimmer (12”)
