Fairy Tent

I created this card using Lavinia Stamps, distress inks, an MFT die, and lace.

I’ve entered this card in the Lavinia Stamp Challenge (July 2018). The challenge was to “create a card that takes you back to those carefree times to recreate your childhood dreams.” I thought of those wonderful summer days making tents with my oldest sister, Lynn, when we were little. We’d hang  blankets (or old drapes) on the clothesline and dream the day away.

Happy Birthday-Camera Card

I created this card using a camera design from the Silhouette Design Store, distress inks, a Sizzix Tim Holtz Words die, and lots of sequins.

My youngest son, Keith, does a fantastic job of taking photos, so I thought I’d do a camera theme for his birthday. He took the picture of the angel and the fairy on the home page of my website.

This card was A LOT of work-a challenge! ALL the pieces of the camera needed to be assembled. I’m sure it was designed that way to give more options when it was put together. I can picture parts of the camera in a cardstock with a print on it, also.

I’ve just started to use sequins. I can tell it’s going to be a love/hate relationship. I love how they’re lots of sparkle in a little package~kinda like me. The hate part~they stick to my fingers because of static electricity and that’s frustrating to me when working with them.

Materials Used:

  • Core’dinations Sand it, Tear it, Emboss it, Love it Cardstock-Stormy Gray and Scattered Straw
  • Dark Gray and Black Cardstock
  • Strathmore Watercolor Paper, Cold Press, 90 lb. Scrap Piece
  • White Cardstock Base
  • Distress Inks: Mermaid Lagoon, Broken China, Tumbled Glass, and Scattered Straw. I used the ink smooshing technique.
  • Carta Bella Camera (Design 54303)-Silhouette Design Store
  • Sizzix Tim Holtz Thinlits dies, Celebration Words: Script, 660223
  • Silver/Turquoise Sequins
  • Tim Holtz Micro Distress Glaze (to seal the distress inks)
  • Ranger Mister
  • Ranger non-stick Craft Sheet
  • Fiskars Procision Rotary Bypass Trimmer (12″)
  • Martha Stewart Scoring Pad/Fiskars Dual-Tip Embossing Stylus
  • Cousin Stretch Cord
  • Ranger Glossy Accents (to adhere the sequins)
  • Ranger Multi Medium Matte and Scor-Tape: 1/8”, 1/4”, 1/2″, and 3/8” (to adhere the  Camera/Camera Pieces)
  • Micro Brushes MA-101-Regular

Machines: Silhouette Cameo and 12” Cutting Mat. Sizzix Big Shot, with two cutting plates and the magnetic platform

Crazy Cats-I Miss You

I created this card using distress oxides, a Crazy Cat stamp and die, and Avery Elle Rectangle dies.

I applied distress oxides onto a craft sheet; spritzed them with water until the water beaded; smooshed the watercolor paper into the distress oxides, and used a heat tool to dry it. I repeated this process, using the heat tool to dry in between each time, until I got the look I wanted.

I stamped the crazy cat onto the distress oxide paper and cut her out with the matching die. The two rectangles were die cut with the Avery Elle dies, as well as the hearts with the heart die. The sentiment was stamped on a strip of the distress oxide paper. I used Scor-Tape to anchor everything, as well as Ranger Multi Medium Matte to adhere the smaller pieces of the cat.

Things I recently learned that I want to pass along to you:

~I ran across a really useful tip in a video by Megan Daves, from iteachstamping.com. This tip is how to extend the life of Big Shot cutting plates-she presses in the middle of the cutting plate. If it gives, she flips it. No give, she doesn’t flip. She said you do need to start with a new set of cutting plates though for this to work.

~ In a video, I saw Jennifer McGuire use a wooden cutting board, along with her heat tool, when drying distress oxides. She used the oxides on cardstock and placed it on the cutting board. I ordered one with a handle from Amazon (7”x14”x3/4”). It made drying the oxides with the heat tool so much easier.

~The Avery Elle Double Pierced Rectangle dies come connected and need to be cut apart. I still love them because they give the cardstock such a finished look with the stitching. I had bought a pair of Stanley FatMax (14-563) tool snips to cut patio carpeting to use as grass in fairy gardens. I found that this tool also worked really well to cut the pieces between the Avery Elle dies.

Happy 4th of July

I created this card using Crazy Birds stamps and dies, Spellbinders Stars dies, and Copic markers.

When I was a little girl, my Mom told my older sister and me that we were going to have a new baby brother or sister. There’s a young girl, Emily, in a commercial advertising the Lexus RXL. She says “Mom and Dad got a new car, with the extra third row seats. They think it’s theirs. It’s not theirs. It’s mine, mine, mine.” Then her very-pregnant Mom asks “Are you excited about your baby sister coming?” The look on Emily’s face, yeah, I had that same look.

But, everything worked out. After my Mom brought my baby brother home from the hospital, he was so good-natured and adorable that my sister and I decided we would keep him.  I made this card for him.
