Enchanted Mermaid

I created this card using Lavinia Stamps and a sheet of Lavinia Dream-Scape Papers.

My oldest granddaughter recently turned 15. I decided to make a mermaid-themed birthday card, with a Dream-Scape background.

When Kira was a little girl, my son and I traveled with her to the west coast. We were passing over a bridge, and she said she had just seen a mermaid. My logical mind jumped in and reasoned that it could have been a person who was swimming. Then I realized the rocky shore and rough terrain would have made that very hard, if not impossible…and we WERE very close to the ocean. I decided to believe and to share in my granddaughter’s magical moment!

I’m so glad I purchased the Dream-Scape Papers when I first saw them. I normally like to create my own backgrounds on cards (that’s half the fun), but sometimes there’s a time crunch…Dream-Scapes to the rescue! They come in a pad of 8”x8” 30 double-sided sheets, with 10 different designs. The beautiful backgrounds are already created for you, so you only need to add the stamped images to make a beautiful card.

Materials Used:

  • Lavinia Dream-Scape Papers, Colourburst Collection
  • Black Cardstock Base
  • Lavinia Stamps: Zelith, Sea Tangle, Sea Algae, Urchins, and Sea Creatures (Tracey Lavinia Dutton is the artist of the Lavinia stamps and the Dream-Scape Papers.)
  • Tim Holtz Tonic Stamp Platform
  • Paxcoo Imitation Gold Leaf Foil Paper/Sakura Quickie Glue Pen
  • Stardust Gelly Roll Pen, Sakura, Clear (to add sparkle)
  • VersaFine Clair ink, Nocturne
  • Scor-Tape: 1/4″

Thanks for stopping by my website! Have a day filled with magic and wonder!!!

Searching for Spring

I created this card using Brushos, Lavinia Stamps, and some fairy sparkle!

I sprinkled Turquoise, Violet, and Ost. Blue brushos over the surface of the watercolor paper to begin the background. I spritzed the brushos with water and lifted and tilted the paper so that the brushos and water ran towards the bottom of the paper; then let the paper dry for a bit.

I flipped the card around so that the white, snowy part was on the bottom, with the northern lights extending up to the top of the card. I stamped the images with Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink; highlighted the fairy lantern using a yellow Posca marker pen; and added sparkle with a clear Stardust Gelly Roll Pen. I used a purple Stardust Gelly Roll Pen to draw a few lines, so the stamped images would appear grounded.

To brighten the brushos and to preserve the card, I sponged Distress Micro Glaze over the surface of it. I blotted off the excess Glaze, using a piece of men’s undershirt, which I bought specifically for this purpose.

To finish the card, I used Scor-Tape to adhere the watercolor paper to the black cardstock base.
