Retro Birthday Vibes: The 1970s Chevy Camaro Card

I created this card using the Muscle Car and Postage Label dies from Spellbinders, along with sentiment stamps from Altenew and Tim Holtz. For the background, I used Brusho.

I’ve got a cool brother! In the 1970s, he drove a Camaro. He, along with our sister and friends, would drive to the country and park the car on a gravel road. Surrounded by nature, he would listen to incredible ‘70s tunes and drift away. (Dobie Gray sang it best. “Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul. I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away.”) It was a special time back then. There were no cellphones to interrupt, or distract from the freedom and peace of the moment. I wanted to re-create this memory for him.

My Brother-1970s

To begin the background of the card, I sprinkled Gamboge and Rose Red Brusho crystals over the surface of the watercolor paper. I used a Ranger Mister to spritz the water upwards, then lifted and tilted the paper so the Brusho and water ran towards the bottom of the paper.

I used my Big Shot to die-cut the Muscle Car dies and Nestled Postage die (the largest in the set) on cardstock paper. I trimmed the Postage Label diecut, to better reflect my vision of the card, and used Scor-Tape to attach it to the Brusho watercolor paper. I assembled and adhered the muscle car using Scor-Tape and Ranger Multi Medium Matte. To finish the card, I stamped the sentiments with Nocturne VersaFine Clair Ink, hand-cut them into strips, and attached them to the Brusho.

Materials Used:

  • Strathmore Watercolor Paper, Cold Press, 140 lb.
  • Blue/White/Black Cardstock
  • Bazzill Silver Metallic Cardstock
  • Colourcraft Brusho Crystal Colours: Gamboge and Rose Red
  • Spellbinders Paper Arts: Muscle Car and Nestled Postage Labels & Tag
  • Altenew: Birthday Builder Stamp Set (Happy Birthday)
  • Tim Holtz: Saying Stuff Stamp Set (Celebrate)
  • Ranger Multi Medium Matte
  • Ranger Mister
  • VersaFine Clair Ink, Nocturne
  • Three-sided box because Brusho is like glitter. It gets on places you didn’t even know existed. I picked up mine from Costco.
  • Paper Towels and gloves
  • Scor-Tape: 1/8”, 1/4”

My brother said he really liked the card and put it in a picture frame. Mission accomplished!

Wishing you a Beautiful day!
